AFRICANICAL.PROGRESSIVE.MADNESS

Having enjoyed a career working with Vivienne Westwood and Peter Pilotto, designer Achamyelsh Biftu Bojia has created fashion label Gadofka. Boija draws on her childhood in Ethiopia to infuse her designs with vibrancy, fantasy and tradition. Her intention is to convey a colourful story reflecting her heritage in every print. Gadofka is design without boundaries or limitations.

This dress features a braided centrepiece incorporating an individual artpiece as a necklace within the garment created by the Women of Harare. With inspiration taken from jewellery worn by tribesmen and using traditional techniques, the design reflects a message of protection and beauty. The print of the fabric was inspired by the paintings of Cy Twombly creating a combination of Ethiopian tradition and modernity.
